Nickel For Your Story is ParadeRest's project to record the stories of our nation's veterans. In cooperation with the United States Library of Congress, we record video interviews of our veterans in order to preserve these invaluable and increasingly rare accounts of service for future generations. To date we have recorded interviews with over 75 veterans. We began by interviewing veterans of World War II and Korea. We are now continuing our mission by collecting the stories of Vietnam War veterans. By recording their stories, we honor their service and can help give some of them the welcome home they never received.

Our interview program focuses primarily on the veterans of Central Virginia: namely Charlottesville and Albemarle County and the surrounding counties. However, we may also be able to interview veterans from outside our area who come here to visit, if we have enough advanced notice.. We typically do our interviews at the veteran's home where they are most comfortable, but we can also do them in other locations if the veteran prefers.
-
Once the interview is done, we provide a digital copy of it to the veteran to share with their family if they wish. We also submit the interview to the Library of Congress in order to preserve it for future generations. In most cases, the Library of Congress eventually makes the interview accessible online for anyone who wants to view it in the future.

We are interested in recording the stories of all veterans who served during the Vietnam War, Korean War or World War II. No matter where or how you served or whether or not your service involved combat, every veteran who served this country has a story to tell, a story that is worthy of being told and of being preserved. If you are a veteran of Vietnam, Korea or World War II and are interested in telling your story of service to our nation, or if you have questions and would like to learn more about Nickel For Your Story, please contact us!
